1 Month Itinerary Laos
Laos really is an amazing country. I enjoyed every day to the max with all the adventure, the people, the authenticity of the country, the nature and the whole vibe. I could not get enough of it and even tried to extend my visa. I would recommend everyone to definitely travel through Laos for 1 month instead of 10 days.

Huax Xai (1 day)
So I arrived in this little town on the border Laos – Thailand. You can start your slowboat journey here but also something else first… the Gibbon Experience! And that’s exact what I am going to do. The office and meeting point is located in this little town. Everything you need to arrange for Laos is found here. Buy your sim card, get cash and book the slowboat.
Gibbon Experience (3 days)
This is an incredible experience in Laos to do. You are going to zipline in the jungle and sleep in a 30 meter high treehouse…. and if you are lucky you see some Gibbons but more important is the ziplining!! This is an incredibly experience with an incredible organization that’s helps the forest and people. Definitely check this out if you are planning a trip to Laos. Read here everything about my experience and check here their website.
Slowboat (2 days)
After the Gibbon Experience I took the next day the Slowboat. The first day the boat will bring you after 6-7 hours driving to Pak Beng. A little town build for the 1-day travelers. Because the next morning all the passengers will step in the boats again for the second day. After another approximately 7 hours we arrived in Luang Prabang. From here you can get a Tuktuk to Luang Prabang city.
Luang Prabang (4 days)
I spent 4 days in this town and I loved it! In the morning I was visiting the Alms Giving and the local morning market. Later in the daytime I was exploring the Old Town and the handcraft village or I grabbed a motorbike to explore the nature (Kuang Si Waterfall). At the end of the day, I visited the local night markets. Streets full with vendors selling their handcrafts and souvenirs. There is a lot of streetfood as well. My favourite way to explore the cuisine of the country. If you are looking for nightlife in the evening, the place to be is the Bowling Alley. It is quite an interesting experience.

Muang Ngoy (5 days)
From Luang Prabang I headed North. With a mini van I arrived in Nong Kiau. I’ve heard about a small town Muang Ngoy, located close to Nong Kiauw. And decided to go directly to this really small town. There is a boat leaving close to the bus drop off point. So it was easy to get on the small boat and take the 1-2 hour journey to Muang Ngoy.
This little town was literally a few streets and not even proper paths. But the place was amazing! I found a home stay in Ba Na, another small village close to Muang Ngoy and it was the most wholesome local experience. With no internet connection, I lived with the locals for a few days. It was a really interesting way to learn about the culture and integrate with the locals.

Vang Vieng (4 days)
From the small village, I headed for a long day of travel. I did not want to make a stopover in Luang Prabang and continued traveling to Vang Vieng in one go. Several modes of transport and challenges later, I arrived in Vang Vieng. I still remember this insane travelday… This is a real backpackers town that is also much known for adventure activities and parties. I spent a few days exploring the area here, which was beautiful. The town itself I didn’t find great.
Thakhek Loop (6 days)
Then it was time for the well-known Thakhek loop. Once I arrived in the cute colourfull village, I started arranging everything for the tour. This could easily be done at the right hostel. Read more about the Thakhek Loop here. Then began this 5-day experience and it really was one of the most fun and cool things in Laos.

Pakse (2 day)
With an interesting night journey, we arrived in Pakse. A city that is not very special. But mostly known for its beautiful nature with incredible waterfalls These can be visited in 1 day. Other than that, there is not a whole lot more to do.
Don Det (4 days)
Don Det is a place also known as one of the Thousand Islands in the Mekong River. Located all the way south of Laos, it is the last (or first) destination for most travelers. There is a very relaxed atmosphere. Cycling around the island, good food, swimming in the river, night fishing and partying for the enthusiast. A lot to do there, but mostly at a slow pace.
